What is laser cladding technology?

Laser cladding is a new technology with high economic benefits. It forms a filler cladding layer with metallurgical bonding on the surface of the substrate by adding cladding material on the surface of the substrate and using a high-energy density laser beam to melt it together with the thin layer on the surface of the substrate. It can prepare high-performance alloy surfaces on metal substrates without affecting the properties of the substrate, reducing costs and saving precious and rare metal materials.

I. High metallurgical bonding strength. Laser cladding uses a high-energy laser beam with extremely high concentration energy to instantly micro-melt the surface of the workpiece, while completely melting the alloy powder preset on the surface of the workpiece or automatically transported synchronously with the laser beam. After the laser beam scans, the substrate rapidly solidifies through self-cooling to obtain a dense coating alloy layer metallurgically bonded to the substrate.
 

II. Optional hardness and thickness. After laser cladding, the hardness of the cladding layer can be selected between HRC20-62, and the cladding thickness can be adjusted as needed.
 

III. Wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Laser cladding can form corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and an excellent alloy layer on the surface of ordinary carbon steel workpieces, thereby extending the service life of the workpiece.
 

IV. Reduce costs and energy consumption. Laser cladding can produce high-performance alloy functional layers on low-cost substrates by forming alloy coatings with different metallurgical combinations, alloy compositions, and properties on the substrate surface, thereby saving material costs.
 

V. High quality cladding. Small deformation, good mechanical repeatability, dense interface structure, fine grains, no holes, cracks and other defects.
 

VI. The cooling rate is fast (up to 106K/s), which belongs to the rapid solidification process, and it is easy to obtain fine-grained structure or new phases that cannot be obtained by equilibrium state, such as non-stable phase, amorphous state, etc.
 

VII. The coating dilution rate is low (generally less than 5%), and it is firmly metallurgical bonded or interfacial diffusion bonded to the substrate. By adjusting the laser process parameters, the laser cladding machine can obtain a good coating with low dilution rate, and the coating composition and dilution degree are controllable.

Machine Configuration

I. During the working process of the reel, the wire rope or conveyor belt will slide and rub against the surface of the reel, causing wear on the surface of the reel. Laser cladding can add wear-resistant materials such as alloy powder (such as nickel-based alloy powder, iron-based alloy powder, etc.) to the worn surface of the reel, forming a wear-resistant cladding layer, effectively repairing the worn area, restoring the dimensional accuracy of the reel, enhancing its wear resistance, and thus extending the service life of the reel.
 

II. We recommend a 6000W laser cladding machine with a robot and a vertical rotary table for capstans cladding. Of course, the laser solution will be adjusted according to the type, size, and weight of the jobs.
